CCC Us Go

In 2007, Carolyn’s Compassionate Children (CCC) refocused its mission to reflect the core values of the organization and to address the changing environment of our world today.

CCC was founded in 1999 to end the social isolation felt by children with cancer by connecting them to their healthy peers. While this program was tremendously successful, we felt that we could no longer ignore the unaddressed needs of the young adult survivor population.

Today we are shifting our focus into programs that improve the quality of life for these survivors by targeting initiatives that support education and community.

In the coming months, you will experience some of these changes with us as we implement these programs.

This website signifies the first major step of CCC’s transition and this section of the website is designed to keep you informed throughout our transformation process.

Steps to Achievement:

Phase 1: To redefine CCC’s role within the young adult survivorship movement, we have shifted our focus and ignited CCC’s transition. Our core values as an organization serve as the centerpiece of our vision: an evolved community in which people and financial resources are united to give education and opportunity to young adult cancer survivors.

Phase 2: To foster recognition of the dual importance of education and community in the young adult cancer population, we are expanding our scholarship program annually alongside the development of an online collegiate community.

Phase 3: To increase accessibility to scholarship dollars for young adult cancer survivors, we have established a database of scholarships for survivors from across the country. We will continue to streamline the scholarship application process as our database is fine-tuned.

Phase 4: To strengthen the voice of young adult cancer survivors, we will continually seek out partnerships with major organizations across the country. Augmenting the profile of our organization along with the community as a whole will allow us to advance the changes we believe in.

Scholarship Program

CCC recognizes the importance of a college education, not only for the individual but for all of society. For young adult cancer survivors, both rising tuition costs and mounting medical debt create barriers to receiving higher education. CCC’s Scholarship Program aims to reduce these barriers by providing scholarships to young adult cancer survivors. Although our program is not changing its values or processes, we strive to continue to award scholarships to individuals that give back to the cancer community and commit themselves to their education. We are working to continue to broaden the program annually.

Scholarship Alumni Program

CCC has been fortunate to award scholarships to tremendous individuals. Our alum are incredible representatives of the organization and are at the core of our strength and growth. As part of our transition, we are developing a formal program that creates a community for our scholarship alum. The CCC Scholar Alum Program, the first program of its kind, will create a network among individuals that received a CCC Scholarship, and a coveted first glimpse at the resources, which we make available to all young adult cancer survivors.

CCCpedia

The world of searching for scholarships and grant information is fragmented and frustrating. There are resources specifically created for the young adult cancer survivor population and CCC wants to make it easier to tap into those! Through our comprehensive database we provide information to over 90 scholarships across the country. As we move forward we will continue to ensure that our information is complete and accurate and we also plan to continue to hone the functionality of the database.

Pursuing Partnerships

CCC is embarking on a campaign to join with other cancer awareness organizations across the country to create a unified front against cancer. Our first step in this process was to align ourselves with the Lance Armstrong Foundation Young Adult Alliance. Lance’s inspiring story and high visibility created a platform from which he has built an organization dedicated to young adults with cancer in the areas of research, advocacy, and awareness. The Alliance brings together hundreds of organizations that have shared values and from this, along with other distinct partnerships developed by CCC, we plan on continually pushing for awareness of the young adult cancer population.
